I’ve been meaning to put these photo’s up for a while now. Alot of people have asked me what I did before Zumba, and living in the USA so I thought I’d put together this collection.

Enjoy

Anniversary thoughts…………

Even though I’ve been dancing most of my life and a big portion of that performing, teaching and choreographing last month was my two year anniversary as a Zumba Instructor in Palm Coast.

I have to admit when I first started teaching Zumba I wasn’t sure if its concept was for me. After all I am a trained dancer and the way that I was taught was very structured and disciplined. Saying that, “dance is a form of self expression” so with a good Zumba class taught by a good Instructor there is room for every kind of person.

Zumba has opened many doors for me. Allowed me to grow and is what I teach mostly now. I have been able to use my creativity and Dance knowledge in a different way. Finding my own music and choreographing all my own routines. One of my favourite things to do is to fuse dance styles together which fits the Zumba format so well, especially now as Zumba is not just a Latin dance workout but an International one.

In the beginning I remember another so called experienced Zumba Instructor telling me that” This is not dance Michaela. Its exercise! You cannot use too many dance steps. People will not be able to pick it up and you have to use high impact moves to get an intense workout.” I beg to differ. In my experience those who like to dance, enjoy loud motivating music and a challenge but most of all keep coming consistently will pick the choreography up, get a great workout and feel a sense of achievement to. As for the old skool thinking that you have to jump around to get an intense workout; last year I had a serious back injury and even though I’m much better I still have to be careful. I can jump a little( which in some routines I do) but generally I keep movements low impact plus there are a lot of dance steps that are not suppose to leave the floor. If you make your movements explosive, sharp and dynamic like any other kind of exercise, the intensity will stay high. You’ll be sweating I can assure you.

I also wanted to say how proud I am of my students who have progressed in so many ways. When I see the determination of someone struggling to pick up a particular step and then they master it or a student who has no confidence and by coming to Zumba they bloom, or simply someone adding in their own flair. These sorts of things make me very pleased and I feel that I’ve done my job:)

Hi MK - I am interested in attending your classes in Palm Coast after work at Fitness 1 on 1 - however I do not wish to join the gym. What is the policy for attending your classes - is there a fee for each class or a monthly fee? Thanks. Michele. B.

Hi Michele. I only have one class at Fitness one in the evening. It is Friday night. I work on a rotation with another instructor. This week is my week. Like most other gyms the most common way to use the facilities is a membership but I think they offer a daily rate. You will need to contact the gym directly for price information. If you would consider another gym I do evening work in Palm Coast and most of them offer a drop in rate. See my class timetable for my full schedule.
